INFO

With a degree in medical science and experience with psychiatry as a medical doctor, Trine Stissing is fascinated by the body, our organism and the cell structures which she explores in clay through different methods and expressions. Stissing wants to direct our attention on the body and with her artistic work she critically reflects upon how we view and perceive the human body in our western society.

Inspired by structures seen in the microscope Stissing creates cellular objects with grid, squares and repetitive sequences. The vibration in the surface of her clay objects is a result of unpredictable processes during firing. These processes add a vital and fragile appearance and emerge in the work I Love You (2017) and Column (2017)

In Organum (2017) Stissing works with fictional anatomical structure in the body. The work consists of five colored objects with a clear reference to tube-like organs. The objects are created with a lot of texture and energy to enhance a vital sense. Through various artistic investigations Stissing’s aim is to force us to relate to our body and explore how we see and feel ourselves. This is also to be seen in her conceptual work Automated External Defibrillator (2017) and Analgeticum (166 Painkillers) (2017) which consist of imitations of everyday objects that we are surrounded by. Stissing critically examines how we in society deal with feelings, our view on pain, death and disease. At first glance these objects seem straight forward, but they have a certain depth. A depth that reveals the vulnerability as human being that no man and woman can escape.
